Akseli Ferrand

Akseli Ferrand (born in 1996) began singing in the Cantores Minores boys’ choir in 2006. Akseli performed as a boy soprano soloist in several orchestral works with the choir, including Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Passions. 

At the age of 13, he appeared at the Helsinki City Theatre in the musical “Mary Poppins” in the role of Michael Banks. He graduated from Sibelius High School in the spring of 2015 and studied solo singing under the guidance of Petri Antikainen at Tampere University of Applied Sciences for a year. In the fall of 2016, he began his vocal studies at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki with Petteri Salomaa as his teacher. Akseli graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in music in the spring of 2020. 

Akseli has performed the role of Lucano in Monteverdi’s opera “The Coronation of Poppea” (a collaboration between Orpheus’ Muses Association and Opera BOX in 2017), the role of Orfeo in Offenbach’s operetta “Orpheus in the Underworld” (Helsinki Conservatory production in 2019), the role of Ferrando in Mozart’s opera “Così fan tutte” (a Turundot production in Joensuu in 2020), the role of Agamemnon Paris in Suppé’s operetta “Ten Girls and No Man” (Helsinki Workers’ Institute production in 2020), the role of Mayor Upfold in Britten’s opera “Albert Herring” (a production of the Sibelius Academy opera class in 2020), the role of Jupiter in Handel’s opera “Semele” (a concert production of the Sibelius Summer Academy in 2021). In June 2022, Akseli performed the role of Penjaami Turakka in Jukka Linkola’s opera “The Silent Inherit the Earth” at the Ilmajoki Music Festival. In October 2022, Akseli played the role of Michael in the musical “The Bridges of Madison County,” a production of the Turku City Theatre, with performances continuing until May 2023. 

Akseli Ferrand’s vocal studies have been supported by the Selim Eskelin Foundation, the Sibelius Academy Foundation, and the Antti and Jenny Wihuri Foundation. 

Akseli Ferrand will be performing in the concert “Paris – London – New York” at Torstila Manor on July 29th at 19:00.
