Beautiful and brave

IRIS CANDELARIA, sopraano
JUHO LEPISTÖ, piano

Time: 19:00 Frugårdin kartano

Paajalantie 221, Joroinen

The concert features melodies about death, lost love, and fleeting moments from brave women and artists belonging to sexual minorities. It brings a glimpse of 18th and 19th-century France and the United States, showcasing both familiar and seldom-heard gems from Parisian composers, including Lili and Nadia Boulanger, Augusta Holmes, and Samuel Barber.

The rising stars of the art world throw themselves into dramatic moods: Soprano Iris Candelaria won the Lappeenranta International Singing Competition on January 6th, 2023, together with Iida Antalo. In 2019, Candelaria won the Timo Mustakallio competition. She has performed at the Finnish National Opera and Savonlinna Opera Festival, where she will return next summer as Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Pianist Juho Lepistö has performed extensively as a soloist, as well as a lied and chamber pianist. He has achieved success in several competitions, such as winning the first prize at the Helsinki Lied competition in 2018.

The concert will be held in Frugård Manor in Joroinen, built in the 1700s.
