The closing concert of the Joroinen Music Festival will feature a Requiem – a mass composed in 1947 by one of the most celebrated French composers, Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986), in memory of his father. Based on Gregorian themes, the work takes the listener back to the early Middle Ages, offering a unique experience that goes beyond the surface. Duruflé, also known as the organist, composed three versions of the work, of which this one is for organ, choir and two soloists.

The concert also celebrates Erkki Melartin (1875-1937), whose 150th birthday will be celebrated in 2025. The concert will begin with his organ piece Festliches Prelude – Festive Prelude, and vocal music with organ accompaniment.

The organ will play an important role in the concert. Pilvi Listo will be the organist. The vocal soloists in the concert will be Maiju Vaahtoluoto, a mezzo-soprano from Savonlinna with an international career, and artistic director of the festival, baritone Jussi Merikanto. The choir South Savo Regional Choir premiered at the Joroisten Music Festival in summer 2024. The Requiem will be conducted by Matti Makkonen, known for his versatility.

The concert will take place in Joroinen Church, where a map of the venue is available. You can choose your seat from the numbered or unnumbered area.
