From Sleep to Sleep is an adult bedtime story, a lullaby for tired parents, exhausted by work and life, constantly having nightmares, bad and good sleepers. This is a concert for night owls and sleep deprived, for those who feel they are living in a dream and for those who can’t bear to wake up. From Sleep to Sleep is a concert for those who never remember their dreams and for those for whom dreams open the way to the subconscious.

The three-piece ensemble of vibraphones and marimba by Panu Savolainen will lead you into a dreamlike soundscape. In addition to the old familiar dream songs, Tuiki tuiki tähtönen, Sininen uni, Brahms’ Lullaby, the concert will feature new songs composed and arranged for this purpose, as well as alarm clock, yawning and snoring.

Eppu Nuotio will be the narrator of the concert, the texts will be poems about sleep, snippets of dreams, experiences of sleep research, insomnia, the moment of falling asleep, night sleep, day sleep, recipes for good sleep, dreams and their interpretations. And, of course, the concert will include a bedtime story.

Writer Eppu Nuotio’s extensive output includes, in addition to over ninety books, plays, songs, musicals, librettos and TV programmes, and he has also written and performed as a narrator for orchestras all over Finland for over twenty years. His collaborators have included the Tapiola Sinfonietta, Tampere Philharmonic, Turku Philharmonic, Kuopio, Joensuu, Pori, Lappeenranta and several chamber orchestras. Nuotio has been a guest narrator at the Music in Ruovesi Festival, Helsinki Festival, Rauma Festival and, in celebration of Finland’s centenary, in nine German cities from Berlin to Düsseldorf.

Vibraphonist Panu Savolainen is known as a versatile and expressive musician, composer and bandleader in jazz, classical and other acoustic music. He came to the attention of the Finnish music world through his Herd trio, founded in 2009, and especially through the jazz-bass project between Herd and singer Aili Ikonen. In addition to his own ensembles, Savolainen, who has released seven albums, has been seen and heard as a soloist with the JPP folk music ensemble, Helsinki City Orchestra, Kymi Sinfonietta, Oulu Symphony, Lahti Symphony and Vuokko Hovatta Kolmis.
