Yona – the River
Yona, known for her extensive and artistically ambitious career, will perform at Leppävirta Church in a duo with pianist Antti Kujanpää. For this special concert, Kujanpää will be playing a grand piano, adding a unique touch to the performance. This intimate concert offers a rich selection of Yona’s music, ranging from brand-new songs to long-time favorites. Audiences can expect a beautiful, flowing, and powerful performance that, like a river, will carry them to new emotional landscapes.
The concert will also feature songs from Yona’s and the Saimaa Orchestra’s Ukraine project, which involves arranging and translating Ukrainian songs into Finnish. The project was initiated and produced by Mikko-Pekka Hanski’s Solovey Productions, with the aim of strengthening the emotional connection between Finland and Ukraine. The songs seek to reflect Ukraine’s cultural identity and the experiences of war, loss, and hope. The Finnish lyrics have been written by Yona.
One of the songs performed in the concert, Laula mulle laulu (“Sing Me a Song”), was released on May 9, 2025. It is the Finnish version of Obijmy by the popular Ukrainian band Okean Elzy. In Ukraine, the song became symbolic after Russia’s invasion, and in its Finnish interpretation, it speaks of longing for love and the traces of war in personal experience. The concert will take place in the magnificent Leppävirta Church, which uses a seating map for ticketing. In the Lippu.fi online store, both numbered individual seats and unnumbered seating areas are available. In the unnumbered areas, seats can be freely chosen before the concert. Doors open at 6 PM. Leppävirta Church is accessible.
