From the Surface of the Earth, from the Depths of the Current

PAULIINA HAUSTEIN cello
Texts by ANNI KYTÖMÄKI

Time: 15:00 Putkisalon kartano

Putkisalontie 172, Rantasalmi

This concert is an experiential journey into wordless and verbal storytelling, where cello music and texts create a space for dialogue.

The music consists of both new and older repertoire for solo cello, which together with texts and improvisations invite the listener to reflect on the meaning of messages, words, and sound.

The texts are written by Anni Kytömäki. Excerpts guide the listener into forests and underwater worlds, where humans can rediscover their connection to nature.

Pauliina Haustein (DMus) is an internationally known Finnish cellist, classical improvisation artist, and pedagogue. Her passion lies in restoring spontaneous and interactive creativity to classical music through performance, teaching, and musicological publications.

Anni Kytömäki is an award-winning author from Hämeenkyrö whose works portray humans as part of nature, not above it. Her novels often depict dissenters—people who, in one way or another, seek to make the world a better place. Wild species such as bears, freshwater pearl mussels, birds, and plants also play a central role in her stories.

NOTE: The Rantasalmi Library will host an event on 31 July at 2:00 PM, where Anni Kytömäki will be interviewed by Jorma Kaimio.
